A steamy, suspenseful, stand alone romance from New York Times Bestselling author Jessie Evans

How far will they go for a second chance... Years ago, Layla Parker's romantic dreams came true. She married her high school sweetheart and settled into a house on his family's ranch to live happily ever after. But sometimes dreams turn into nightmares and when Layla's husband became abusive, she felt there was no way out. Her big brother was serving overseas, her friends were away at college, and her single father insisted she'd made her bed and now she had to lie in it. It isn't until her father's death over a decade later that Layla gains the courage to leave her marriage. She hopes to find peace living alone, but her dreams of happily ever after died a long time ago. Cole Lawson has spent years secretly pining for his former best friend. Layla Parker captured his heart sophomore year of high school, but she was already taken. When she married her boyfriend two years later, she and Cole grew apart and have rarely seen each other since. Cole's been a lady killer since the day he realized that his dimpled smile made all the cowgirls swoon, but when he discovers Layla is newly single he's ready to put an end to his womanizing ways and make a serious play for the one who got away. When tragedy strikes the Lawson family, Cole and Layla's rekindled friendship grows into something more, but soon a dark secret from Layla's past threatens to destroy their shot at forever. Now Cole will have to decide--listen to his heart or to the people warning him that Layla might not be as innocent as she seems.

My Review:

4 Stars

I just LOVE Jessie Evans' books. They come out and I just have to read them. They always seem to have the perfect combination of sweet and sassy, sexy and fun and Chaps and Chance had those as well as some suspense. I have to say, I loved Cole Lawson, he is a great character. We have had bits and pieces of Cole prior to this book, but in getting the full Cole experience I can only say I love him. He is sweet and ridiculously sexy, he is an awesome uncle and brother, he stands up for what he believes in, does what makes him happy and after a brush with death (check out Glitter and Grit for details) he lives each day to the fullest. When he figures out what Layla went through in her marriage, he instantly stands up for her and tells her if she needs anything at all, he is there for her. He is just an all around great guy.

Layla was a great character as well. Seeing her go from the battered wife that she was to someone willing to fight for her life, to stand up for herself and take a chance on love again, was a great progression. Layla and Cole together was even better. They seemed to complement each other in the best ways and really bring out the best in each other. This book was fun, sexy, suspenseful, heartbreaking and sweet all together and I just can't wait for the conclusion of the series.

ChapsKiss

Excerpt:
“Good morning, sweetness,” he said, blinking sleepily as he returned her grin. “How long have you been awake?”
“About an hour,” she said, going into his arms as he reached for her.
“I’m sorry.” He pulled her onto his chest, wrapping a warm arm around her waist. “You should have woken me up. I would have made you coffee.”
“I liked watching you.” She pressed a kiss to his bare skin, her body beginning to hum the way it always did when she touched this man. “You’re pretty when you sleep.”
He humphed. “Not pretty enough or you would have woken me up with a kiss.”
She laughed. “I don’t do morning breath, Lawson. Not even for a man as pretty as you.”
“You’re not using your imagination, Parker,” Cole countered, rolling over until she was pinned beneath him. “You didn’t have to kiss me on the mouth.”
“Oh?” Layla’s pulse picked up as Cole’s hand trailed up her thigh. “Is that so? Where should I have kissed you then?” she asked, playing innocent.
“I’ll show you.” He tossed off the blanket and sheet before scooting down to the end of the bed until his mouth was level with her curled legs. “There’s the ankle, for example. The ankle is very sensitive first thing in the morning.” He pressed a kiss to the skin just beneath the inside of her left ankle, his soft lips and scruffy face combining to make the kiss even more delicious than she’d been expecting.
She shivered. “That is nice. I didn’t know that about ankles.”
“Backs of knees, too,” he said, urging her legs farther apart, settling between them before bringing his mouth to hover behind her bent knee.
“See?” he said, breath heating her skin, sending another prickle of awareness dancing on kitten feet up the inside of her thighs. “This back of knee doesn’t care what my breath smells like. It has no awareness of morning breath. Not even a little bit. Isn’t that right back of knee?”
“Yes,” he answered himself in a high-pitched voice. “That’s right, Cole.”
Layla giggled. “Is that supposed to be my knee talking back to you?”
“Well, of course it’s me,” he continued in the same squeaky tone. “Who else would it be, Missy? Seems like you’d recognize my voice after thirty years together.”
“I’m so sorry, knee,” Layla said, rolling her eyes as she laughed. “I can’t believe you’re making my body parts talk. You’re so weird.”
“Weird?” He affected a wounded expression.
So weird,” she said, still laughing.
“Fine, Parker,” he said, eyes darkening as his palms came to rest on the insides of her thighs. “If making your body parts talk is so weird, I guess I’ll have to settle for making you scream instead.”

About Jessie Evans:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read. She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more. When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

Cover Reveal!!! Smoke Signals by Catherine Gayle

Blurb:
Growing up poor with a mother who would do anything—even sell her body—to help him get ahead in life had a profound impact on Ray “Razor” Chambers. Now he’s a defenseman for the NHL’s Tulsa Thunderbirds, which allows him the means to make sure his mother never needs to do anything like that again. He’s in Vegas because his best buddy is about to get hitched, but not before Razor and the guys throw him a bachelor party. Viktoriya Dubrovskaya had been studying ballet in California, but money is tight and there’s no help coming from home in Russia. She started out making some extra money as a dancer in a club, and that eventually led her to the adult film industry. Porn may have paid her well, but it stripped her of everything she was and all she wanted. She’s left the business behind, but too late. Now she’s out of time, money, and options. In desperation, Viktoriya makes herself available to Razor on the casino floor. There’s no chance he’ll take her up on what she’s selling, but he offers a counter-proposal—one involving a ring, a green card, and the chance to reclaim her body. It’s an opportunity she can’t pass up. For Viktoriya and Razor, learning to live together as husband and wife is as foreign as interpreting Smoke Signals, but where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.

Cement Heart by Beth Ehemann Promo Tour

CEMENT HEART

Lawrence Finkle, known simply to his die-hard Minnesota Wild fans as Viper, isn’t used to hearing the word no. He lives his whole life just a little on the reckless side. After all, life is just one big game, right?

Wrong.

When what was supposed to be an innocent bet goes horribly wrong, he’s left to deal with the aftermath— and the guilt. In an effort to make things right the best way he can, he ends up falling for the one person on the planet he never should have.

The old saying goes that two wrongs don’t make a right . . . or do they?

Look for my review in a few days. -J :-D

I found a bench right outside the door at the very moment my legs decided to give out. Who knew a hard-ass concrete bench could be so comforting? I ran my hands through my hair and rested my elbows on my knees, staring at the concrete slab below me. An ant slowly walked up to my foot and stopped. I wondered what it was like to be an ant. Did they have friends and families? Did they accidentally hurt each other? Did they feel guilt? I’d fought like hell my whole life to keep my feelings in check and never let people see them, but the last two days were testing that more than any other time in my life. I didn’t know how much longer I could keep it together.
Praying was something we never did in my house growing up, but at that moment I felt the overwhelming urge to talk out loud to . . . someone.
Looking around to make sure I was alone, I took a deep breath and puffed my cheeks out, exhaling slowly.
I glanced up at the sky for just a second, quickly deciding I probably looked like a moron and that whoever I was going to talk to would probably hear me no matter where I was looking.
“Hey, whoever’s up there. My name is Lawrence Finkle, but you probably know me as Viper. Anyway—” I cleared my throat, suddenly feeling very stupid that I was talking to myself, but so desperate I was willing to do anything. “—we’ve never had what I would call an active relationship, but right now I’m feeling pretty alone down here. I’ve fucked up a lot in my life, as you probably know, but I’ve always been able to talk myself out of any trouble I got into. Well, I’ve finally done something I can’t fix. It was an accident, but I still can’t fix it, and I could really use it at the moment. I don’t really know how this works, but I’m willing to bargain. I’ll do anything—go to church, donate time and money, stop fucking strangers. I mean it, anything . . . just please . . . save my best friend. He’s a good man with a wife and kids who need him. If you need to take someone, take me. No one gives a shit whether I’m here or not.” My eyes started to feel hot and sting as I took another shaky breath.
“Mr. Finkle?”
Startled at the sound of my name, I stood and turned as a camera flashed in my eyes. Squinting and holding my hand up, I tried to block out another flash. “What the fuck?” I growled.
“Hi, Mr. Finkle. I’m Warren Sanders with the Star Tribune here in Minneapolis.” He held his hand out for me to shake. I glared down at it and then back up at him without saying a word. He quickly pulled his hand back and continued, “We heard about what happened yesterday and we were just wondering if we could ask you a few questions. Like, maybe what exactly happened? What’s his current condition? Anything you’re willing to give us.” He held a microphone in my face as the cameraman lifted a different camera onto his shoulder to film me.
Rage shot through me like a bullet shoots out of a gun.
“You want anything I’m willing to give you?” I asked coldly. “Well, I’m going to give you ten seconds to get that motherfucking camera out of my face before I shove that mic up your ass.”
“Uh . . .” he stammered. “We won’t keep you for long. We just want a quick statement.”
Without hesitation, I took three steps and grabbed the camera from the guy behind him, lifted it above my head, and smashed it on the concrete. They both jumped back, their mouths hanging open as they stared at the ground.
“There!” I pointed to the shattered camera as I walked away. “There’s your fucking statement.”
