My Review: 4 Stars

I don't know where to start with this one. I started the book and after eleven chapters (my lunch break went a little long that day) I was like "what in the hell is going on?!?!" and it wasn't because the book was confusing it was because I was hooked and had to know what was all going on. I was instantly intrigued by this book and almost as quickly I disliked Luke (Emma's "apparently devoted boyfriend") and was cheering for things to work out for Emma in the long run. The more you get into the story, the more you find out, but at the same time you don't find out everything to connect it all together and that kept me interested in the book and finding out all the details of Emma's/Luke's/Solomon's connections to one another. I had a hard time putting down this book to get other things done. I just wanted to keep reading. This is the first book by Ava O'Shay that I have read, but it most definitely won't be my last. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes Young Adult books or Paranormal books.

I closed my eyes. I couldn’t look at him and say what I needed to say. I wanted to accept his help, I wanted so badly not to be alone but I was afraid. “I was told not to trust you. I need more time but he’ll come. He’ll eliminate you. That’s what he does.”
He leaned toward me, his tone stern. “You have to live the life you have been given. You did not cause nor deserve what has happened. Don’t force yourself to shut people out before you give them a chance. I’m stronger than you think.” His voice hovered over me. “You can trust me. I’ll never hurt you. And I’m not asking to be your friend. You have no choice in my involvement. Accept my help or not, I’m here to stay.”
My eyes were drawn to his. The pull toward him was overwhelming. I was losing my resolve.
“Why are you afraid of me?” His words turned soft and I wondered if I had heard them at all. “When I come…why are you afraid?”
“I don’t know who to believe.” I sighed. “My mind is being told too many things. I don’t know what I am. What you are. I am afraid for you. I don’t want to be responsible for another life.”
He took my hand and rubbed it against his cheek. So soft, I thought. No stubble. Flashes of Luke’s rough skin against my cheek when he’d finally kissed me slithered through my thoughts. My breath caught. I closed my eyes, trying to regain my own thoughts, to push the hard kiss from my mind. Luke’s words echoed through me. I was your first kiss.
Solomon leaned forward and touched his lips to my cheek, lingering briefly before moving away.

Ten minutes later, he opened the door and Jamie stood on his porch,

the moonlight illuminating her. The faint glow of the half-light made

her even prettier, her blond hair streaming down her back and over her

shoulders. He was about to make a wisecrack about late-night visitors,

but she pressed her lips against his in the sweetest kiss anyone had

ever given him. In seconds, she’d disarmed him, and a groan escaped

his throat. She brushed her lips lightly against his, kissing so

softly it was as if she were barely there. But that’s what made her

kiss so enticing; it was a promise of more.

They stood like that kissing—only kissing—for minutes, and soon he
